Neighbor Helps Catch Mail Thief In Fountain

A watchful neighbor helped catch a mail thief in Fountain.

On Jan. 30th, an observant neighbor noticed an older silver Toyota Camry circle the block three times in the Countryside Neighborhood. The neighbor then witnesses the Toyota stop in front of a home. The front passenger got out of the car and took a delivered package from the front porch of the home.

The neighbor called police and gave them a vehicle and suspect description.

A few hours later, a Fountain police detective saw the same vehicle driving in the Countryside Neighborhood. The detective stopped the vehicle and found empty boxes with shipping labels addressed to various people in Fountain.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and there are likely more victims and stolen property. If you have received a confirmation of delivery and the package was missing, please call your local law enforcement agency and make a report, identifying the missing items and their value.

Police thank the neighbor for caring and say it is a great example of the benefit of Neighborhood Watch and Community Policing.

To prevent theft of deliveries, police recommend you avoid having shipped items left unattended by upgrading to a signed receipt and retrieving the items from the shipper’s depot, or using a secured locker at the delivery location, or having the items shipped to an attended location.
