Mother Nature Causes More Problems In El Paso Co.

A weather system moved across southern Colorado Monday and Tuesday. This system resulted in strong winds for portions of El Paso County overnight.

The winds combined with residual snow from a potent storm system that moved through last week to create snow drifts and reduced visibilities Tuesday morning.

?It was very bad, visibility was bad. You wouldn?t have been able to see going into a drift, how deep it was or how long it was,? said Tom Ireland, a rural drainage and blade foreman with El Paso County.

Miami-Yoder and Calhan school districts were initially put on a two-hour delay, but that was later extended to a full closure.

?The main thing is that even if they use their snow routes, which means basically that the buses pick up on the asphalt, getting the kids from their homes in the country to the bus routes is too dangerous,? said Ireland.

The Stormtracker 13 Forecast is calling for lighter winds Tuesday, but Ireland said they still have a ways to go.

?As far as the cleanup process goes, it?s going to take the rest of this week and even on to the next week before we?re finished with it,? said Ireland.
