Missing Fremont Co. Girl Found Safe In Chaffee Co.
The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office said 10-year-old Sidney Peet has been found safe near Poncha Springs in Chaffee County after vanishing from her home early Sunday.
The sheriff’s office said the girl is in good health and is believed to have left home voluntarily. They didn’t release details on how she may have gotten over 50 miles away from her home.
KRDO Newschannel 13 spoke to Sidney’s foster mom who said she believed the girl was trying to find her biological mom and grandmother in Grand Junction. Yvonne Cessnun said Sidney’s birth mother asked her to watch Sidney and her four brothers and sisters three years ago, then never came back.
“She just found out her mother, who abandoned her, has a new life and a new baby,” said Cessnun. “And she wants answers on why her mom just left her.”
Search and rescue crews spent hours Sunday combing the remote area around Copper Gulch where the family lives.
Cessnun said she considers Sidney her daughter, and has raised her and her siblings with her own three kids.
“She’s been my child for three years, it doesn’t make any difference if her blood is the same as mine,” she said.
