Monument Hammered By Snow

People driving from Colorado Springs to Monument Friday saw a night-and-day difference in conditions.

“When you get down to Cimarron, there’s nothing, and then you come back up here and it’s like we had a blizzard,” said Monument resident Clint Delano. “Colorado’s bipolar, and I love it.”

Delano said he only took his truck out in the poor conditions to get some gas and show his girlfriend, who’s new to the state, the winter wonderland. Jenna Price moved from Missouri four months ago and said Colorado hasn’t been quite what she expected.

“Everyone was like, ‘Oh, Colorado gets so much snow all the time,’ and then I’ve been out here and you guys haven’t really had any,” said Price.

While Price said she loved the snowy conditions, the drivers who slid off the roadway Friday likely didn’t agree. There were icy spots on the interstate and especially the side streets in the Monument area.

Snow plow driver John Psensky started his shift at 2 a.m. and said he saw plenty of drivers get into trouble.

“Sliding through intersections or going off in ditches,” said Psensky. “I’ve seen a couple people take out some mailboxes.”
