Shake Up In Sheriff’s Office

Big changes being made at the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office. It’s because of mistakes made in the Hanif Sims murder investigation.

All 400 sworn Sheriff’s employees will undergo a refresher course in evidence processing. An audit will also be done of 23 cases in the Major Crimes Unit. A staff change is that Sheriff’s Detective Ralph Losasso will be reassigned to patrol. All the changes are a result of a jail house interview recording that surfaced in the Sims investigation.

It disproved what Losasso and his supervisor claimed Hanif Sims told them during a jail house interview about the death of seven year old Genesis Sims. Her body was discovered in the crawl space of a Monument home. Hanif Sims agreed to a plea deal that could mean 27-40 years in prison. His sentencing is set for April 14th. His girlfriend, Monique Lynch was scheduled to testify against him. She received a plea deal of 27 years in prison.
