Update: Southbound I-25 Reopens After Messy Hay Spill

An accident involving an overturned semi trailer has been cleared from the south-bound lanes of I-25.

For most of the late evening commute, all but one lane of south bound I-25 were closed just north of the Cimarron interchange.

The delay was caused by an overturned semi-trailer, one that was carrying several huge rolls of hay.

The truck tipped over onto its right side just after 5:00pm, spilling tons of material. Some of that hay slammed into another car, crushing the roof. Police said no one inside that car suffered any injuries.

The crash occurred along the same stretch of road that saw a major milk truck spill back in December. That’s the oldest section of I-25 through Colorado Springs.

The curve on that stretch can be difficult to maneuver, especially for drivers who are not expecting it.

CSPD said the driver in Wednesday’s accident has been cited for careless driving and excessive speed.
