Rollover Accident Claims Fountain Mother Of Two

Friends of Amanda White and Thomas Encinias say the couple had only recently started dating when they were involved in a deadly rollover crash east of the Pueblo Airport on Wednesday.

Sgt. Justin Mullins of the Colorado State Patrol said White, 39, was driving a pickup truck and Encinias, 45, was a passenger in the truck. Mullins said White swerved off the road to avoid a car in front of her that was moving slowly, and she then over-corrected, rolling the truck several times as she struggled to regain control.

Mullins said White was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene. Mullins said Encinias was partially ejected and had to be cut out of the wreckage when rescue crews arrived. He was airlifted to Parkview Medical Center in Pueblo for treatment and was released Wednesday night.

The crash happened around 2:30 p.m. on eastbound U.S. 50 near 41st Lane. Traffic was closed between 36th Lane and 41st Lane for several hours Wednesday.

Mullins says neither passenger was wearing a seat belt. He said alcohol, drugs and speed were not contributing factors in the crash. The official cause of the crash, Mullins said, is driver inattentiveness.

Friends tell NewsChannel 13 that White and Encinias grew up in Rocky Ford. White lived in Fountain and was working at an Office Depot in Colorado Springs.

White leaves behind two daughters. Friends say the girls’ father died several years ago, and are living with relatives in Rocky Ford.
