Let There Be Street Lights

Quiet repairs being made to light your way home through Colorado Springs. Since early January, city crews have been repairing street lights that were hit by copper thieves along I-25. So far, 30 of them have been repaired on the north and south bound side of I-25. 15-20 more are scheduled to be fixed by the end of February.

Crews had to wait for the 2012 budget cycle to come up with the hundreds of thousands set aside for the repairs. City Traffic Engineer Dave Krauth tells me that with the light repairs come new anti-copper theft protection. He wouldn’t go into the specifics of how it’s done to help stop thieves. Krauth says, so far the protection is working because it makes it tougher and more time consuming for the thieves to steal the copper.

Colorado Springs Police are also part of the two pronged attack to stop thieves with increased awareness.
