Police Investigate Shooting
Colorado Springs police are investigating an early morning shooting on South Nevada Avenue.
Police said a 21-year-old man walked into the 7-Eleven convenience store covered in blood with a gunshot wound. He was shot under his right arm, taken to the hospital, and is expected to be OK, police said.
Police said the victim was not being cooperative in the investigation.
Officers towed a small white car from the scene. Police said there was blood in the car, so they think the man who was shot was in the car at some point.
According to officers, witnesses near the shooting scene were giving police conflicting reports of what happened.
KRDO NewsChannel 13 spoke to a store clerk who saw and heard one gunshot fired. Joshua Hopper said he thought the gunshot was fired right outside the store.
He said he quickly got on the ground and called police.
“I saw the guy kind of flail,” said Hopper. “If he would have been any more to the right or left and the guy would have missed. I would have been shot because I was directly behind him.”
This is the first shooting Hopper has seen while working at the 7-Eleven store, but the clerk said he is concerned about the gun violence that has been plaguing Colorado Springs.
