Colorado Springs SWAT Standoff Ends In K-9 Takedown

Police arrested a man wanted for a parole violation Tuesday night, after he refused to come out of his apartment and caused a nearly three-hour SWAT standoff. The suspect ended up being bitten by police K-9s.

“His face was all bloody and he was walking gingerly,” said Justin Caudill, who witnessed the arrest.

Officers didn’t identify the man, but said he was someone police were familiar with who had a track record. They said he was checked out at the hospital before being taken to the criminal justice center.

More than two dozen police and SWAT vehicles shut down Colorado Avenue between Ridge Road and the Manitou Springs city limit from about 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The man lives at Colorado Village on Columbia Road just off Colorado Avenue.

Officers used flash bangs, a robot and dogs to get the man out of his home.

“I heard a lot of loud bangs and I could taste and feel the tear gas in my nose and in the back of my throat,” said Caudill.

Police also arrested a woman who was with the man in the apartment. They said she would be facing charges after she refused to leave the home when she was told to.

We will keep you posted as soon as any information about the man’s identity is released.
