UPDATE: Missing Hiker Found Safe

A missing hiker has been found safe in El Paso County Tuesday.

Three separate search and rescue crews searched for the man for several hours in Colorado Springs on Tuesday afternoon.

The hiker is believed to have fallen off of Barney’s Dome Rock. One team headed up the trail on the south side of Hwy 24 across from Waldo Canyon.

According to the El Paso County Search and Rescue team at 4:30 p.m., a “field team has voice contact with a person involved in the incident.” Around 5 p.m. crews confirmed they reached the man and were doing a medical assessment.

Rescue crews say the man appears to have some mental issues, including bipolar disorder. The man reportedly acted belligerent towards rescuers talking to him on the phone. He claimed that he has two broken legs and a broken pelvis. Rescuers say he is not as badly injured as he led them to believe.
