UPDATE: House Fire In Pueblo
Firefighters responded to a house fire at 27 Montica Dr. in Pueblo on Monday.
It happened around 11:40 a.m. in the El Camino area.
Upon arrival, crews found smoke coming from the attic and eaves of the home.
After investigating, the crews extinguished a fire that appears to have started in the firebox/chimney area of the fireplace on the lower level of the tri-level home. The fire extended up the chimney chase and entered the attic as well. Structural damage to the home occurred, especially to the attic where several trusses were heavily damaged.
The home’s occupants will have to find other living arrangements while the damage to the home is corrected. Damages have been estimated to be at least $20,000.
The occupants of the home were using the fireplace for the first time in more than two years.
“This is a tragic example of the importance of having your fireplace and chimney inspected and cleaned annually by a qualified technician”, stated Chief Christopher Riley. “Perhaps a problem that led to today’s structure fire would have been found and corrected, averting this sad outcome.”
Firefighters were able to locate and extinguish the fire before it did heavy damage to the home.
No injuries were reported by Fire Department members.
