Trial To Continue For Man Accused Of Killing Daughter, Hiding Her In Crawl Space
The trial for a man accused of killing his daughter will continue.
Last week, a judge debated whether problems with questionable testimony from a police detective was severe enough to dismiss charges against Hanif Sims. The judge ruled Monday that the trial will continue.
Contractors digging in the Monument area found the body of Genesis Sims in 2010. Her father, Hanif Sims, is charged with first-degree murder. His girlfriend, Monique Lynch, pleaded guilty to child abuse causing death.
In June, a judge sentenced Lynch to 27 years in a state prison for her role in the death. Lynch struck a deal with prosecutors to avoid first-degree murder charges. In exchange, she agreed to testify against Sims.
In the phone call that prosecutors will use in Sims? trial, Lynch claimed that both she and Sims carried the girl to the master bedroom. She said the girl was barely breathing for two days until she died. The couple decided to bury the body in the home?s crawlspace. When asked why they didn?t call 911, Lynch said the couple was afraid of police.
