Arrest Made In Pueblo Serial Bank Robberies

A joint police task force working in conjunction with the FBI arrested a former Florida man Thursday in connection with four recent bank robberies.

Police say the capture of 36-year-old Shawn Godbey closes the book on three robberies in Pueblo and the Wednesday robbery of a 1st Bank in Colorado Springs.

In a statement released late Thursday, police outlined the investigation that led to the capture, saying that the pieces started to fall into place after Wednesday’s robbery on Garden of the Gods Road.

The final break came just after noon Thursday, when a car belonging to the suspect was spotted at the Budget Host Inn on Sinton Rd.

Police contacted a man there who told them that Godbey was in Cripple Creek on a gambling trip.

Within the hour, Cripple Creek detectives and security managers with all the casinos were alerted to be on the lookout.

Godbey was detained without incident as he tried to leave the Brass Ass Casino.

Shawn Godbey is a parole violator from Florida who’s now living in Colorado. Godbey has no permanent residence in the state, which made the search for him difficult.

In addition to the 1st Bank on Garden of the Gods Rd., the investigation clears three robberies in Pueblo: Sunflower Bank, Vectra Bank, and the ENT Credit Union.
