Father Says Deputies Should Not Have Shot Daughter

There is new insight in the case of a Colorado Springs woman who was shot and killed by an El Paso County Sheriff?s Deputy.

Christen Vargas? body was later found in a getaway vehicle parked at Memorial Hospital.

The Sheriff?s Office did an internal investigation, and found that none of the deputies had violated policy.

Mourning father, Paul Vargas said he was moving back to Colorado Springs to help his daughter get her life back together, but that chance is now gone.

?This has totally consumed my whole life to the point that I even dream it, and it is not fair to anybody,? said Vargas.

Vargas told KRDO NewsChannel13 that he knew his daughter Christen was having trouble with the law, but that he still does not believe deputies had the right to use deadly force on his daughter because she was not armed.

During a sit down interview, Vargas said that he also objected to the way investigators handled his daughter?s death.

?They didn’t notify me, they didn’t let me see my daughter’s body and they didn’t give me her personal effects. Then, I got a hold of victims advocates and they never got ahold of me,? said Vargas.

Vargas said he was in the process of moving back to Colorado Springs to help Christen. He said they had phone conversations and that he knew she was on the run and had a drug problem. Vargas said Christen had planned to turn herself in to police once he could accompany her to the police station.

?That is all I wanted to do. Get back here, and help my kid get her life straight,? said Vargas.

Vargas plans to take civil action against the deputies involved even if the district attorney?s office refuses to re-open the investigation.
