Arrests Made In Springs Kidnapping/Homicide
Colorado Springs Police confirms that two people have been arrested in connection to Colorado Springs’ first homicide of 2012.
44-year-old Alfredo Velazquez and 26-year-old Xavier Rubalcaba-Lopez, AKA Alan Rocha Armijo, are being charged with first degree murder in the death of Jeremy Naranjo.
On Jan. 10th, detectives located and stopped a vehicle in Colorado Springs driven by Rubalcaba-Lopez. He was taken into custody for providing false identifying information and for being a previously-deported felon from Mexico.
On Jan. 17th, CSPD Homicide detectives and Pueblo Police Department detectives arrested Velazquez for his involvement in Naranjo’s death. On Jan. 18th, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Rubalcaba-Lopez for the murder of Naranjo. He was served at the Criminal Justice Center in Colorado Springs where he was being held on his aforementioned charges.
Police say photographs of these suspects are not available for release at this time because the investigation is continuing.
Investigators from both agencies are working to identify other potential suspects as well.
Naranjo was found dead on Jan. 9th on Rim Ridge Court near Academy and Vickers. Naranjo was kidnapped from the 2100 block of Hellbeck Drive in Pueblo earlier that day. Police say several male suspects forced Naranjo into a vehicle around 6:20 p.m.
Police say the motive for the kidnapping appears to be narcotics-related because at least one suspect and the victim had exchanged narcotics in the past.
Naranjo’s death was ruled a homicide as a result of gunshot wounds.
