Man Dies After Falling Through Ice Chasing Dog

A man who chased his dog onto a semi-frozen section of Fountain Creek has died.

Fountain Fire Department rescue crews spent more than one hour looking for the man after his fall. Divers located him and rushed him to the hospital.

That man was at Fountain Creek Regional Park just off I-25 Saturday afternoon when his dog fell through the ice.

“He was 15, 20-feet from shore [on his] hands and knees right up to dog [when the] ice broke out underneath him,” said Casey O’Malley, who witnessed the rescue effort.

Firefighters urge you to stay off the ice and if you do bring your dog to a lake, pond or stream make sure they remain on a leash.
