Warehouse Fire Called Suspicious

Investigators are taking a close look at a warehouse fire that sparked in downtown Colorado Springs Friday night.

It happened in the 400 block of South Sierra Madre at a vacant warehouse. No one was hurt and no one was inside the building at the time according to firefighters.

“Anytime you have a vacant building that catches on fire– they don’t just happen on their own,” said Lt. Jeff Sievers with the Colorado Springs Fire Department.

Sievers said flames were coming through the roof when they arrived just after 7 p.m. They called the building a total loss.

CSFD said the fire was a 3-alarm blaze and 44 firefighters were called to the scene to make sure the fire didn’t spread to nearby businesses.

Investigators continued looking into the cause of this fire Saturday morning. They said they expect to be at the scene for most of the day.

Firefighters have been working to make the roof of the building stable. It was badly damaged during the blaze and they are putting in supports to make it safe for investigators.
