UPDATE: Police Arrest Robbery Suspects
Colorado Springs Police have three robbery suspects in custody Friday morning. It is not clear if they are searching for more suspects.
At least two robbery suspects are accused of robbing Bowie’s Gold and Diamonds in the 2200 block of East Pikes Peak around 8:30 Friday morning.
One of the suspects pistol-whipped a female employee at the store. Medical units treated the woman on scene. The culprits took a large amount of jewelry, according to police. Witnesses got a good description of the getaway car and informed police. Police then ensued in a chase of the suspect vehicle.
While fleeing, the suspect vehicle was involved in an accident with two cars at Platte and Cirlce Dr. As the suspects continued to flee, they left the roadway and drove through fences and yards, then struck a house in the 800 block of Arrawanna. They continued to flee recklessly and officers eventually lost sight of the vehicle, but an observant citizen saw the car pull over in the 3000 block of Mission St. Three suspects got out and ran, but Sand Creek Officers were quick to establish a perimeter, forcing the suspects to hide nearby in a back yard.
The suspects were observed moving between yards, attempting to sneak out of the area, and when Sgt. Sheppard of the Tactical Unit challenged two of them, they gave up. The third suspect was apprehended on De Cortez St. as he also tried to leave the area.
The men arrested are 51-year-old Arvelo Obdulio, 48-year-old Julio Castro, and 20-year-old Moises Garduno.
A search of the car resulted in the recovery of the stolen jewelry. Additional evidence was found in the area where the suspects had been hiding. During all of this, a 911 emergency call was received, where an unidentified caller stated there were men with guns inside a nearby store. Officers responded, but found nothing to substantiate the claim. It was later determined that the call was made from one of the suspect’s cell phones, in an attempt to divert officers.
KRDO NewsChannel 13 spoke with Minnie Moreno whose parents live in the home that was hit. She said it was a miracle her mom was not hurt.
Moreno pointed out that her mother uses her computer in the exact spot that was hit Friday morning.
Her family said they thought their nephew, Anthony, served as a guardian angel. The family planted a tree in his memory in front of their home and the tree was not damaged in the crash.
The Morenos said after all the chaos, they were just happy that no one was hurt.
