Young Burn Victim Struggles To Fight Off Infections
It’s been nearly a year since the Sabino family’s home burned to the ground. After his health seemed to be improving, Tyler Sabino, 11, is now in critical condition at a California hospital.
KRDO NewsChannel 13 spoke to his mother, Vicki Sabino by phone. She said Tyler’s heart stopped Tuesday night and she thought she was going to lose him.
Tyler is currently being treated in Sacramento, California at the Shriners Hospital for Children and UC Davis.
There were dozens of doctors who treated Tyler on Tuesday. Vicki said, since then, his oxygen levels have risen. She is now hoping his infections will go away, but his immune system has been weak.
Vicki said Tyler’s recovery has been like a roller coaster ride. His condition has been up and down the past year, but Vicki said her family is not losing hope.
She calls her son a fighter, and said that it was a miracle he survived the fire. She is now hoping for another miracle, a full recovery.
Tyler’s father and his brothers plan to visit him soon. Vicki said she hopes that will lift his spirits.
Vicki quit her job last year to take care of Tyler, and she and Tyler’s father have been struggling financially.
