School Bus Accident In Woodland Park

There was an accident involving a school bus and a car in Woodland Park around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. It happened on U.S. 24 at Aspen Garden Way on the south end of town.

The bus belongs to the Colorado Springs Christian School, according to the school’s director of security, Greg Maxwell.

Woodland Park Police said the school bus pulled out in front of oncoming traffic and was hit by the car with a teen driver and passenger, and that the bus then hit a guardrail. Both teens were taken to Pikes Peak Regional Hospital in Woodland Park. Police said one teen was released and the other received minor injuries.

Maxwell says there were 14 students on the bus and that none was injured. Police said the students were ages 12-18 and were released to their parents at the scene.

Police said the bus driver was taken to Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs to be treated for a stiff neck and that he was floating in and out of consciousness when they arrived.

Students on the bus defended the driver, saying the crash happened because the driver of the car ran a red light. Streets were icy at the time, but police say the cause of the accident remains under investigation.
