Fort Carson Deals With 2 Tragedies

The mountain post is dealing with two tragedies. One soldier left a note before a suicide. Another soldier is found dead in a barracks.

Fort Carson confirmed that a soldier was found dead in a barracks Sunday morning. It is not yet known how the soldier died. Fort Carson officials say it?s under investigation. The soldier has not yet been identified.

In another case, a Fort Carson soldier who died after crashing his truck Thursday left a suicide note on Facebook. The Army has identified the crash victim as Pvt. Jordan Dubois. He wrote a final goodbye on his Facebook page about an hour before the deadly wreck.

According to an earlier post, Dubois had just learned he was being kicked out of the Army. His friends and family wrote that they had called 911 and were searching for him.

Dubois’ truck crashed into a light pole on Westmeadow Drive near Fort Carson. Soldiers were at the scene trying to help right away. They say they had heard about Dubois? threat.

?He was getting kicked out today, and I guess he felt he didn?t have another way out,? said Spc. Daniel Sheffield.

Despite the note on Facebook, Fort Carson said it cannot comment or say whether the death was officially ruled a suicide.

Investigators said they did not yet know what caused the soldier’s death, but officials said there is no immediate safety concern for the community.

The soldier has not yet been identified.

Officials said they hope to release more information on this case Monday morning.
