Safe Rides Home On New Years
New Year’s Eve is considered one of the biggest drinking holidays of the year, which can result in it being one of the most dangerous on the roadways.
There are a lot of safe alternatives available, and many are free.
McDivitt Law Firm is continuing its Safe and Sober Cab Ride Home program on New Year’s Eve. Call Yellow Cab at 777-7777 between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. in Colorado Springs, and say that your ride is on McDivitt Law Firm.
The Colorado Department of Transportation is teaming up with Miller-Coors to provide $10 cab ride vouchers at Cleats Bar and Grill, Duffy?s Tavern, Joe?s Bar, Mikey?s and CJ?s Bar and Grill.
In Pueblo West, Jimmy’s Tavern and S T Pour House are offering free cab rides home.
In Fremont County, you can call 719-275-RIDE between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. and drivers will pick you up and drive your car home.
If your plans are taking you to Denver, Regional Transportation District – Denver is providing free bus and light rail services on from 7 p.m. New Years Eve through 6 a.m. New Years Day.
There are also options for Fort Carson soldiers.
Designated Drivers of Colorado Springs has been out of operation since November due to a lack of funding, but recently received a grant from the National Homeland Defense Foundation. This grant allows the nonprofit driving service to provide rides home for Fort Carson soldiers only on Friday and Saturday night from 10 p.m. until 3 a.m.
?We work in two-people teams so that one person hops in the person?s car with them, and the other follows so that we can pick our driver up and move onto the next ride,? said Nonie Rispin, executive director and founder of Designated Driver of Colorado Springs.
Nonie said they do not charge a fee for the service, but tips are appreciated as the volunteer drivers are using their own cars and paying for their own gasoline. ?I just think it?s really important that our Fort Carson soldiers know that there are people in the community who truly care about keeping them safe like Don Addy and the National Homeland Defense Foundation,? said Rispin.
Rispin said they will have 35 to 40 cars ready to pick passengers up. To take advantage of this service, call 650-3450.
All of these services provide you a ride home only, and will not take you to another bar or to an eating establishments first.
