——-PREVIOUS STORY FROM FRIDAY AFTERNOON——-
Police and members of the bomb squad have returned to a home in the 700 block of East Vermijo in Colorado Springs to investigate expected explosives inside.
Police have evacuated about 5 homes en each direction from the house where the suspected explosives are located.
People who have been evacuated can go to the Hillside Community Center where the Red Cross is providing coffee and other assistance.
Police say they have one person in custody in connection to the incident. Police have not released the name of that person.
The bomb squad was first called called to the home Thursday evening, after police arrived in time to witness the second of two explosions. The first was called in by a neighbor.
That neighbor reported to police that she heard an explosion that shook her house and that she saw a plume of blue and grey smoke about 30 feet high.
The officer who took the report was present when the second explosion occurred.
Police questioned a man from the home. They say he was resistant at first but is now cooperating.
Responders told KRDO NewsChannel 13 crews on scene that they do not believe the explosions involve a meth lab.
They are looking at the possibility that it may involve homemade fireworks, but that has not been confirmed.
No one was injured in the explosions.
Neighbors tell NewsChannel 13 that they have heard explosions coming from that home over the past couple of weeks.
This was the first time they heard an explosion during the day. One neighbor described seeing smoke rise 100 feet above the house on one occasion.
ATF agents were called to the scene as per standard procedure.
