Ft. Carson Soldiers Back Home To Ring In The New Year

A homecoming ceremony welcomed home a big group of soldiers just in time for them to ring in the new year with loved ones.

Soldiers with the 4th Engineer Battalion, 576th Engineer Company deployed to Afghanistan in mid-August to conduct route clearance operations as part of Task Force Rugged in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

The company established a base of operations at three remote forward operating bases and patrolled from Kandahar Airfield to Camp Leatherneck.

Most notably, the soldiers disarmed more than 40 improvised explosive devices and removed them from the roads to prevent significant damage to coalition forces and locals.

Jane Coulter is the mother of one of the soldiers who returned home Friday. She has two other sons serving in the Army and Navy.

Coulter traveled from Kentucky to welcome home her son, Sgt. Tim Coulter, and she said she couldn’t be more proud of him.

“This is what he wanted to do, and he believes in what our country does and what it stands for, and he really is our hero,” she said.
