UPDATE: Man Finds Army Medals, Owners Found

UPDATE: Christina Misner has contacted KRDO NewsChannel13 and will be getting her husband’s medals back from Marc Peck on Thursday. —

A man finds medals awarded to a fallen soldier, and now he needs the community’s help to find the family they belong to.

Sgt. Gordon Misner, 23, died in Iraq in 2006. He is survived by his wife Christina and their three children: Haley, Natasha and Marisa.

Less than a month ago, the family was evicted from their Colorado Springs home on Northwind Drive.

“We were hired to come in and clean out the house. When we were doing the clean-out of the garage, we found a lot of stuff we didn’t think it should be left behind,” said driver Marc Peck with Junk King.

That stuff was several medals and certificates given to Misner’s family after his death, including a Bronze Star.

“This guy went out and served to protect his country, to protect our rights, and he was killed doing that. This is stuff that was given to the family. I wouldn’t want it gone,” said Peck.

Peck said he understands the family is going through a tough time and that evictions are very stressful. Peck said he does not believe that the medals were left on purpose.

Christina Misner said she is looking forward to getting the medals back on Thursday.
