Former Springs Officer’s Charges Combined

A judge decided on Wednesday to combine the child pornography and sexual assault charges against a former Colorado Springs police officer.

Carrier previously faced two cases. One involved child pornography and the other involved sexual assault of children. Prosecutors say there are nearly 200 counts against 22 victims. Carrier was a school resource officer at Mann Middle School when accusations first surfaced that he purchased child pornography. Investigators arrested Carrier in May on charges that he sexually assaulted a number of children, some of them students at the school.

Up to this point the two cases have been separate; but now the cases have been combined to one, saving the cost and hassle of two trials.

Carrier is currently free after posting a bond of $500,000. This concerns prosecutors and the families of his alleged victims. They fear Carrier could be a flight risk or be a threat to the alleged victims.

Fourth Judicial District Judge David Gilbert agreed to postpone Carrier’s Jan. 9 trial on child pornography charges. The judge set a Feb. 3 court date to focus on rescheduling the case.
