5-Year-Old Dead In Shooting Accident

Fremont County sheriff’s deputies said a 5-year-old girl is dead after a shooting accident.

It happened Monday night around 8:00 at 1730 Diamond Back Trail in northeast Fremont County.

Deputies said the girl, Ruth Joy Wilson, died from an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound to her head.

Deputies tell us the child had apparently been handling a .45 caliber handgun in her parents? upstairs bedroom when the gun discharged. The victim?s parents and an infant were not injured and were downstairs in the residence when the accident occurred.

The parents are identified as 30-year-old Levi Wilson and 26-year-old Grace Ann Wilson.

Deputies said they arrived to a heartbreaking scene.

“This is really difficult even more so because of the age of the victim. Several deputies have children the same age. It hit them really hard,” said Captain Don Pinover.

Investigators said the district attorney’s office will determine if any charges will be filed.
