Filipino Community Seeking Donations For Disaster Relief

Members of the Filipino-American Community Of Southern Colorado (FACSC) are asking for donations to help their native land.

Typhoon Sendong (Tropical Storm Washi) swept through villages in the southern Philippines on December 17.

The official death toll is over 1,000 people including children. The Philippine Government and the United Nations estimates 640,000 were affected by the disaster and a staggering $28 million in aid is needed.

“We’re asking the public to please support our humanitarian efforts in this critical time of need as local villages traditionally celebrate the Christmas,” said FACSC President Odith Medina. “No country can stand alone,” she added.

FACSC is hosting a disaster assistance drive for the victims. All donations will be sent to the Philippine Red Cross and ABC-CBN Sagip Kapamilya, a private charity.

They will have a donation cans set up at Sams Club this week and are also excepting checks in the mail.

You can send donations to FACSC Attn: Ester Javier, Treasurer 3430 Marble Terrace Colorado Springs, CO 80906
