Car Hits Police Cruiser

Colorado Springs police are investigating after a woman slammed into an officer’s car at the intersection of Austin Bluffs parkway and Academy Boulevard.

Colorado Springs police say officers were responding to shots fired in the 3100 block of Van TeyLingen at around 12:30 a.m. Sunday in the when Elizabeth Fernandez, 41, was heading eastbound on Austin Bluffs. Officers were using their overhead lights and sirens, but fernandez did not stop. A witness told police they saw the police car slow down at the intersection. That’s when Fernandez collided with one of the fully marked police vehicles. Three people inside were hurt and taken to the hospital, including an officer, and they are all expected to survive. Police aren’t releasing the names of any of the victims, but say the patrol officer is being held overnight for observation.

So far no arrests have been made but police are still investigating and say alcohol may have played a role in the crash.

As for the shots fired call, police say that it was a suicide. No more information will be released.
