Residential Street Plowing
So, when’s my street going to be plowed? That’s the question that’s been flooding into our newsroom the past couple of days. I spoke with Colorado Springs City Streets Division executives to get their take on what some believe is holdup to get those plows to your house.
City Streets Program Director Bill Moritz says crews started plowing residential streets Friday morning. He believes the majority will be done Friday night. Moritz says if they aren’t completed by Friday night, his crews will work Saturday to get them done.
Moritz says there is a prioritization when it comes to getting streets plowed. He says city crews do the main roads first. Those roads include Academy Boulevard. Moritz says secondary roads are next and then residential streets in your neighborhood.
Typically, crews take a measuring tape to gauge the snow depth to see if it’s six inches or more before they address residential streets. This most recent storm had that total and more. Moritz also when it comes to residential street clearing, a supervisor decides which street needs the most based on factors like how much traffic there is on it and how steep a grade is on this route.
