Passengers Prep For Busy Travel Day

Airport managers consider the day before Christmas Eve one of the busiest travel days of the year.

They shared some tips with KRDO NewsChannel 13 to get passengers prepared.

They said before leaving for the airport, passengers should check with airlines for any delays or cancellations.

John McGinley is the Aviation Assistant Director of Operations and Maintenance at the Colorado Springs Airport.

He said passengers need to plan ahead and try to save time when going through security. That means passengers can take off coats and scarves before getting to the security line.

It would also be a good idea to check pockets beforehand and remove items that need to be screened, such as laptops.

McGinley said saving those few minutes can help move lines through at security checkpoints faster.

He also said if passengers have presents, they should leave them unwrapped in carry-on bags.

Security agents may need to unwrap presents, so McGinley said passengers should wait to wrap presents at their final destinations.

Another important reminder is that Monday and Tuesday of next week will also be busy travel days.

McGinley said planning ahead for your trip home is just as important as planning for your departure.
