30+ Inches Of Snow Buries Fremont County Community

Friday was the first day since Wednesday’s snowstorm that residents along Oak Creek Grade near the Fremont-Custer County line could travel easily after more than 30 inches of snow fell.

The amount was the most recorded in southern Colorado during the storm. Residents of the remote mountain community said it has been several years since the area received so much snow, but it wasn’t a problem because they were prepared for it.

The deep snow buried vehicles, blocked driveways and left high plowing-piles on the roadside.

Many people believed the heaviest snow fell 40 miles to the north, in the Park County town of Guffey. Residents there said they received several calls asking about it, and have no idea why people thought the snow fell there.
