More Fort Carson Troops Come Home Early

A unit of Fort Carson soldiers has finished its mission ahead of schedule and is scheduled to return home to Colorado Springs on Wednesday.

About 200 members of the 2nd Brigade Combat team, 4th Infantry Division reunited with their families around 5:30 p.m. The unit worked in Afghanistan with police and security forces in the western province of Herat.

The unit also conducted humanitarian aid projects, patrols and combat outpost defense.

The family of soldier Scott Moeller came from Madison, Wisc., to welcome him home. Unfortunately, they said they won’t be able to spend Christmas Day with him.

“We can’t stay that long,” said Laura Moeller, Scott’s mother. “But I believe (the soldiers) are going to be released the first week of January, then he’ll be able to come home to Wisconsin for a few days, maybe for a week or two. We can have our Christmas then.”

Fort Carson also has a homecoming scheduled Thursday and two more next week. The post never has had so many troops return home during Christmas, a spokesperson said.
