KRDO Snow Coverage Crew Stuck In N.M.

Typically, you can count on our NewsChannel 13 mobile crews to warn you about road hazards during winter weather. Tuesday, however, one of our news crews became the story.

Reporter Scott Harrison and photojournalist Nolan Campbell endured an hours long ordeal Tuesday night, after getting their news van stuck in a four foot snow drift near the New Mexico state border.

The pair had just wrapped up shooting in Trinidad, where they had gone to film some post-blizzard clean up efforts. Because they were already in the area, Harrison and his photographer decided to take a quick trip down Raton Pass to see I-25 conditions first hand.

After an attempt to turn back towards Pueblo, the two found themselves stuck on the shoulder, unable to move. Just to offer some perspective, keep in mind that this is a truck with all-terrain tires and more than foot and half worth of ground clearance.

They had to wait several hours for a tow, but luckily, according to Scott Harrison, “…the only thing we injured was our pride.”

Final lessons learned? If it can happen to a seasoned news crew, it can happen to you. Drifting snow and icy spots will continue to be a problem well into the holiday weekend, so please be careful out there.
