Slow Morning Commute On Tap

Several bursts of snow have produced enough snow in the PikesPeak Region to make for snow covered roads early Tuesday. Some melting during the evening has caused a layer of ice to develop underneath the snowpack, especially over eastern Colorado Springs proper. In general 2″-6″ of snow has fallen over El Paso County with 4″-9″ in Pueblo County including the City of Pueblo.

City, County and Colorado Deparment of Transportation snowplows are out on open roads applying anti-skid, salt mixtures and de-icers in different areas on an as needed basis. Crews will continue on 12 hour shifts through Tuesday. Many roads remain closed over the southeast plains and won’t likely open until some point after sunrise.

Snow will decrease through 9am from west to east, but roads aren’t expected to improve much until sunshine develops as the day wears on.

Remember to allow extra time for travel this morning. Leave enough space between you and the vehicle in front of you to stop and do not pass snow plows in operation.
