Red Cross Opened Shelters Monday Night

Pikes Peak Red Cross opened two shelters for people with sheltering needs in southeastern Colorado on Monday night.

The shelters closed Tuesday morning.

The first shelter was at 114 E. Second Street in La Junta.

The second shelter was at 928 Russell Ave. at the Huerfano Community Center in Walsenburg.

Authorities warned travelers of a lack of motel lodging along the southern I-25 corridor. Many motels and hotels were filled to capacity as travelers got off the road.
