Capitol Christmas Tree Will Come From Colorado
Next year’s U.S. Capitol Christmas tree will come from northwestern Colorado.
Colorado Sens. Mark Udall and Michael Bennet and congressman Scott Tipton announced Friday that the tree will come from the White River National Forest near Meeker.
Colorado last provided the Capitol tree in 2000. It came from the Pike and San Isabel National Forests.
A non-profit group called Choose Outdoors will raise funds to help pay to ship the tree to Washington, D.C. next year.
The founder of that group, Bruce Ward, said Colorado children will be asked to make 5,000 ornaments to decorate the tree.
