Police Detain Suspect In Burglary
Colorado Springs police arrested a suspect Thursday morning after catching him burglarizing a home.
CSPD said they got the call of a burglary happening at a home near Kincannon Road and Cather Circle at about 8:40 Thursday morning.
A neighbor called police and told them he saw an unknown black male breaking into the house directly behind his home.
“His dog was making a lot of noise and he went outside, looked, and discovered that some young kid in my backyard,” said Timothy Stewart, owner of the home that was burglarized.
Stewart said his neighbor called him at work, and when he arrived at his home police were already on scene.
CSPD said they arrived at the home, while the burglar was still inside.
According to CSPD, officers saw the suspect trying to exit the rear garage door. Police said they challenged suspect, who then ran back inside the home and escaped out the front garage door.
While running, the suspect dropped a piece of gold jewelry that Stewart later identified as his property. Stewart said the suspect seemed to be after jewelry, electronics and personal documents.
“I work hard for my stuff and everything, and for somebody to just take it? Nine times out of ten, if they would have asked me, I would have given it to them or something, or helped them try to get it,” said Stewart.
Police were able to catch the suspect, identified as 19-year-old Callison DeWayne Pruitt, about 5 blocks away on Payne Cir. West and took him into custody.
While searching Stewart’s home, officers found a small handgun on the floor.
“Everything turned out good. Most of my stuff was retrieved and stuff. So, thanks god once again for neighbors and the police, too,” said Stewart.
Police say that Sierra High School was on a temporary lockdown during the incident.
There are no reports of any injuries. Investigation is ongoing.
