Fort Carson Looking Ahead

Fort Carson is already looking ahead to its next mission, post Iraq. Garrison Commander, Colonel Robert McLaughlin tells KRDO, NewsChannel 13 that the mountain post is already focused on deploying more soldiers to Afghanistan. Currently, one Fort Carson brigade is in Afghanistan. Another brigade is expected to deploy there, in the Spring.

Colonel Mclaughlin adds that, “We are still committed. The most important thing we do at Fort Carson is to train our soldiers to be able to deploy.”

The Colonel also told us, he is very proud of what the division did in Iraq. Since 2003, 259 Fort Carson soldiers died in Iraq. Currently there are 100 soldiers left in Iraq. They’ll be returning home to the mountain post by January 1st.
