CSFD Rescues Fallen Ice Climber

It took two Colorado Springs Fire Department crews to perform a high-angle rescue Wednesday morning.

CSFD says the ice climber fell about 30 feet in Cheyenne Canyon at Silver Cascade Falls.

Climbers in the area who saw the fall said the man attempted to grab onto a branch that was not secured to the ice. The man fell backwards, but witnesses said that he was equipped with the proper gear and was with a partner, who was able to assist him until help arrived.

A climber who witnessed the fall hiked to an area in the canyon where he was able to attain reception to make the call to 911.

CSFD said the man was complaining of lower back pain. He was transported to the hospital, and is expected to recover.
