Postal Workers Rally To Save Jobs

Dozens of postal workers gathered outside the USPS Processing and Distribution Center on Monday to inform citizens of the postal service’s plan to consolidate the center.

The plan would mean slower, less reliable service for Colorado Springs, according to postal worker Chuck Bader.

“Checks would arrive late, bills would not get paid on time,” said Bader.

The postal service is facing bankruptcy and needs to save money.

In 2009, Congress passed the Postal Accountability Enhancement Act. Bader said its what caused financial problems.

“There’s an easy solution. Congress needs to pass the Postal Service Protection Act,” said Bader.

A public meeting is being held on Friday, Dec. 16th at Mitchell High School starting at 6 p.m.

USPS representatives will explain the results of an Area Mail Processing study and the operational changes they propose to make which may include closing the mail processing plant in Colorado Springs.

Any proposed changes must be approved by the Area Vice President before they can be implemented.

You can also submit comments on the study up to 15 days after the public meeting.

Comments may be mailed to: Manager, Consumer and Industry Contact Colorado/Wyoming District 7500 E. 53rd Place Rm 2212 Denver, CO 80266-9617
