Fire Causes Evacuation At Springs Apartment Complex.

People living in the Park Ridge apartments in Colorado Springs got a unwanted awakening Saturday morning.

They were evacuated after a fire sparked at about 9 a.m.

Firefighters knocked on Jake Walker’s front door, warning him to get out. “They just said there’s something going on in the top corner (apartment) and we need to evacuate the building so please come outside and we were like okay, ” Walker said.

When firefighters arrived, they said smoke was billowing from the apartment complex. Officials said they found the fire in an upstairs apartment. “Pretty small fire, they were able to get it under control pretty quick, ” said Lt. Jeff Sievers of the Colorado Springs Fire Department.

Firefighters said the person who lived in that apartment was not home at the time. The fire did cause a lot of damage, according to Fire Officials, it is a total loss.

Firefighters continued to monitor hot spots Saturday. Those evacuated were let back into the apartment complex once the carbon monoxide levels came down.

Investigators said they did not yet know what caused the fire. No one was hurt.
