Wal-Mart Plans Two More Springs Stores

Wal-Mart is adding to its stores in the Pikes Peak region.

A former Albertsons on the city?s northeast side that has been vacant for more than a decade will be remodeled into a Wal-Mart Market grocery. Wal-Mart will also build a grocery northeast of Union and Palmer Park Boulevards in the center of town. These will be the third and fourth such stores planned this year in Colorado Springs by Wal-Mart.

The old Albertsons, east of Austin Bluffs Parkway and Academy Boulevard in Austin Bluffs Plaza, closed in September 2001.

Wal-Mart hopes to begin remodeling the former Albertsons in fall 2012.

Earlier this year, Wal-Mart announced that it planned to construct a new store near the northwest corner of Academy Boulevard and Chelton Road. It also plans to remodel a former King Soopers at Platte Avenue and Murray Boulevard that?s been empty since 2006. These stores should be open in summer 2012.
