Father Killed In Fire Remembered In Fountain
Joey Nauta, 45, a loving father and husband was remembered in a funeral service held in Fountain Friday morning.
Nauta was killed Monday morning while trying to rescue his family’s pets when their trailer-home caught fire.
His brother-in-law, Peter Quenga, said Nauta always had a smile on his face and loved his family unconditionally.
Fountain firefighters were at the funeral service to pay their respects. Quenga said the Fountain community has provided his family with overwhelming support.
“Words can’t express how my family feels,” said Quenga. “We’re very thankful that everybody is reaching out to them.”
Nauta leaves behind his wife and two children. Quenga said he plans to fulfill a promise to Nauta by taking care of them.
“There’s nothing for them anymore to be here in Colorado,” he said. “I’m taking them home to Washington state when they’re ready to come back”.
Quenga said a trust fund has been set up to help Nauta’s family. If you would like to donate, you can do so at any Academy Bank under the Joey C. Nauta fund.
