Pit Bulls Who Attacked Woman Will Be Put Down

Two pit bulls will be put down after they brutally attacked a woman on Alamo Road, Monday morning. The owner of the dogs, Paul Rodriguez, was cited with two counts of unlawful ownership of a dangerous dog. Rodriguez has given up his right to the dogs, meaning animal control will keep them for 10 days before putting them down.

?The dogs are still here, in custody under quarantine right now,? said Jamie Norris with animal law enforcement.

The two pit bulls, one male and female attacked a woman early Monday morning on Alamo Road. Part of the woman?s scalp had become completely detached and was lying on the ground when ambulance crews arrived.

A man saw the attack, managed to stop the animals and immediately called police. The dogs will be put down.

?Any dogs that we have in here we do behavior evaluation. When there has been suffer attack, in this particular case there was severe bodily injury to a human. That’s too much of a public safety risk to be able to place them back out,? said Norris.

The dogs owner surrendered both dogs for euthanasia.

Animal control is quick to point out, pit bulls do not always attack this way.

?They’re an energetic breed and they require an owner who is going to socialize them, just as any dog, especially any working breed they need a lot of socialize and a lot of training and they need an owner who is going to be committed,? said Norris.

The name and age of the victim has not been released yet. The victim of the attack remains in a Denver hospital. He exact condition is being kept private.
