Free Christmas Trees Get Homes At Ft. Carson

Hundreds of Christmas trees were donated to Fort Carson families on Wednesday as part of a national campaign called Trees for Troops.

The trees were donated from farms and retailers across the country.

“My children are super excited,” said Virginia Moody. “They got up at 5 this morning.”

Moody and her two children, Jaden, 4, and Jacob, 3, bundled up to brave the cold and pick out their perfect tree. Moody said she let her daughter decide which tree to bring home.

“She looked for the biggest tree she could find, the biggest tree Mommy would let her take home anyways,” said Moody.

Moody told KRDO NewsChannel 13 that this is the first Christmas in years her family will get to enjoy together. Her husband was deployed last year, and many families shared the same story.

Brittany Caplinger’s husband was deployed while she was pregnant with their son last Christmas. She said she plans to take nothing for granted this holiday season.

“You’re lucky if you get time with that family member at all, let alone on a holiday,” Caplinger said.
