Boulder County Sheriff’s Deputy Arrested
A Boulder County Sheriff’s deputy has been arrested for internet luring and sexual exploitation of a child.
Deputy Rick Ferguson turned himself in on Tuesday after an investigation into him that began on November 17th.
The Sheriff’s Office was notified by Boulder County Information Technology employees of some unusual activity on a computer used by Deputy Ferguson. An internal investigation was initiated and it was determined that Deputy Ferguson’s Mobile Data Computer (MDC), assigned to his patrol vehicle, had been used for sexually explicit communication with apparent underage females. This led to the issuance of a search warrant for his home computer as well.
Ferguson turned himself in to the Boulder County Jail for one count of Internet Sexual Exploitation of a Child, a class 4 felony, two counts of Internet Luring of a Child, a class 5 felony, one count of Obscenity, a class 6 felony, and one count of Second Degree Official Misconduct, a class 1 petty offense. Bond was set at $100,000.
According to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, so far, the investigation has only uncovered inappropriate internet activity and no sexual contact.
Deputy Ferguson is a 30 year veteran with the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office and most recently was assigned to the Civil Section of the Operations Division. He has been placed on administrative leave pending the conclusion of the investigation.
