Soldiers Return From Iraq

More than 150 Fort Carson soldiers are back at home tonight. The 59th Military Police Company arrived at the mountain post Sunday afternoon after spending nine months in Iraq.

The soldiers are some of the last troops to come home from Iraq.

Just in time for the holidays, the soldiers were greeted with smiling faces and long-awaited embraces.

?At least we get to be home for Christmas,? said SFC Courtney Williams. ?That’s the good thing. It’s always a good thing to be home for Christmas.?

Tears of joy were wiped away, as families were reunited with their loved ones.

?(I?m) just home and happy,? said Spc. Thomas Williams. ?I got my wife, so, I got everything I need right here.?

They captured moments in time to mark the end of a mission.

?It’s good to be leaving Iraq overall,? said Spc. Tayler Dean. ?Definitely that’s a good thing, to be done with that.?

?(I?m) just glad it’s done,? said Sgt. Randy Knight. ?That?s all. Glad it?s done.?

They are done, but prepared for whatever lies ahead.

?Another mission down,? said SFC Williams. ?Get ready for the next one.?

The men and women worked closely with Iraqi correctional officers at Camp Cropper.

After transferring authority of Camp Cropper to Iraqi officials, the soldiers transitioned to Al Asad Airbase to conduct law enforcement operations.
