Remembering Mindy Lee 1 Year After Death

It has been a year since a Manitou Springs mother was found dead in Woodland Park. The loss of Mindy Lee’s keeps her family in pain as they continue to understand the circumstances surrounding her death.

“Today is the one year anniversary that they found my daughter’s body in the Woodland Park High School football field,”said Vicki White.

White was at the Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs to lay a Christmas wreath on Lee’s headstone, along with several other friends and family members. There is little joy in this holiday season for a family still in mourning.

“I”m here and I’m never going to forget her,” said White, who doesn’t like to come to the cemetery because she said she likes to keep her daughter alive in her heart.

Lee went missing last year, after Thanksgiving. White said she received a phone call from some of Lee’s friends who said her daughter was sick and that they were taking her to a hospital. Three hours later, White said, she received another phone call from the same people. They reported that Lee had run off without shoes or a jacket in a different part of town. Five days later, Lee’s body was found.

Woodland Park investigators reported Lee died of hypothermia and meth intoxication.

Former homicide investigator Bobby Brown was at Thursday afternoon’s gathering. Brown has been helping Lee’s family conduct a separate investigation to find out what happened to Lee. His team has said they are not satisfied with the course the police in Woodland Park have taken with the investigation.

“We do not agree with the police department’s initial ruling that this is a case that does not involve foul play.” said Brown.

Brown also said he has been told as recently as today, that the Lee case is still open, but inactive.

White and her grandchildren continue to wait for answers, and believe the circumstance surrounding Lee’s death are suspicious.
